The Kite Story

Once upon a time, a kid like you was flying a kite. Our friend was such an expert that the kite soared high and floated with the clouds. In the process it trespassed into the territory of an eagle. The eagle was surprised. This has never happened before. None dared even to go near its zone; leave alone the invasion. “Who is this daredevil? He cannot be an ordinary one”, the eagle thought. “Who are you handsome? What makes you visit my place?” The innocent kite just laughed. It had no other intentions than enjoying the surf. The conversation continued. Both became friends and started exchanging their experiences and pleasantries. Somewhere in the middle of their talk, the kite said “I am looking forward to go to the moon one day. It would be so nice to be in the all white moon, calm and cool! Have you ever been there?” “No” the eagle replied, “I am scared to go that height.”

The kite laughed; there was a note of sarcasm in it which the eagle did not really like. But for friendship sake it kept quite. “Then what prevents you from going to the moon?” the eagle queried. “See this string attached to me my friend. A stupid person is holding its other end. I can go to the moon only if I come out of it and I know it will never happen” The eagle had not noticed the string attached to the kite till then. “Oh, so sad” replied the eagle, “that is a constraint indeed. But I have an idea.” The kite grew curious. “I will cut this string with my beaks.” “That would be excellent my dear” the kite jumped in joy. In no time the kite’s string was cut; soon it started swaying and started sinking. We do not know what happened to it then. Could have fallen apart somewhere. Its moon dream ended in a tragedy.

Friends, here the kite is you and the string the group of well wishers you have viz parents, teachers and seniors. As the string does to the kite, these people guide you to the heights in your life. You can fly high and enjoy. It is not that you should always be in their shadow; independent thinking is necessary for development. If there is any disagreement, discuss your point with them, get their inputs and take them along. Never totally cut them off as the kite in the story did. For, they have seen the world more than you do.
